The Nightmare Before Christmas Baby Shower
My husband and I decided to have a Nightmare Before
Christmas baby shower, but quickly realized that they do not make very many
decorations for it. So, I decided I would make my own! I wanted to
help others like myself do a DIY Nightmare Before Christmas baby shower.
I will try to post everything I can. Please feel free to ask questions if
you would like to know more about something.
We will start with the invitations. I found a shop
on Etsy.com that personalizes invitations and they send you the file via
E-Mail. I think I paid $13.00 for the file. I believe you can have
them send you prints by mail but do not know the cost. Here is the site I went to
https://www.etsy.com/shop/jayarmada This is the one I picked...
I
put the file on a USB drive and went to CVS Pharmacy to print off the
invitations. I went to the photo kiosk
and just plugged it in and chose what size and how many I wanted. I went with the 4x6 which is the standard
size. The 5x7 is a great size but was
too big for what I wanted to do. I
printed 35 prints for less than $10. I
suggest looking at the ads to see who has prints on sale if you have a large
amount to send out.
Supplies
Then
I went over to my local Craft Store Michael's.
I suggest downloading the craft stores app if you have a smart phone
before you go. They always have coupons
and promotions to help save you money. I
know for sure Michael’s, Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics have apps. I just so happened to go while they were
having a sale on their 12x12 cardstock. 12x12 was on sale buy one get one
free. Each piece was $0.59. I purchased 50 sheets which cost around $15.00. I also picked up 17 sheets of 8.5x11
cardstock at $0.49 each (not on sale) for about $9.00. Then to the ribbon! You can usually find small rolls of ribbon on
the side caps for $1. I purchased 6
rolls of black sparkly 3/8in x 5ft ribbon. (Later found out I needed much more). I ended up needing around 75ft of ribbon (14
rolls). You will need to purchase double
sided sticky tape! They make an adhesive
gun called runners (Looks like the whiteout things). I did NOT like them! I broke one immediately using it then the
others were a pain to get out! Maybe
they will work for you? If you look in
the actual ribbon section you can also find the same ribbon but with the
adhesive on the back. I purchased one of
those but it didn’t go very far and it was pricey! In the scrapbook aisle I found these black sparkle
bats 8 in a pack for $1.99. I bought 5 packs.
I
used the 12x12 card stock for both the invitations and envelopes. One page of card stock can make 4 invitations
and only one page will make one envelope.
Measure how big you want the cardstock to be then cut it out. I used the first cutout as the stencil for
the rest. To get 4 on a page place it on
any corner and trace. Then go to the
next corner and turn it the opposite way.
As shown here.
I
used the double sided sticky tape for the ribbon, envelope and back of the
picture. I cut each strip of tape in
half to extend the tape and it’s also too wide for the ribbon.
Front of Invitation
(Ribbon
goes around the back and around the front just enough to fit behind the photo)
This
is the handmade envelope from the 12x12 card stock
After
doing some research on baby showers it seems like the new “in” thing was to ask
for books instead of cards to start the baby’s library. We also liked the idea of a Diaper
Raffle. This is what we used the 8.5 x 11
sheets of paper for. (Do NOT precut this paper!
It needs to go into the printer and most printers will not feed it
through if it’s not a full sheet) We had to play around with our printer in
order to get two on a page. (Pain in the
butt!!!!!!!!!!!)
Later
found out you can download a Nightmare Before Christmas Font!
Click
on the name and save the file. From
there open the file and click download. Then it will be available for you to
use! It’s super cool!
Example: The Nightmare Before Christmas
For
the Diaper Raffle I wanted to make my own tickets. I played around in paint and came up with
these.
These were for my diaper raffle:
*DIAPER RAFFLE*
To add a little extra
glee
And help the parents-to-be…
Please bring a little
extra from the heart
An unwrapped pack of
diapers
To give them a good
start!
***Bring a package of diapers any size
and receive a raffle ticket at the door.
Want a greater chance of winning?
Extra tickets will be sold for $2.00 each and all proceeds will go
towards college fund.
*Before we start I just want to say that it seems like I had a lot going on. But, all games lasted about a minute or so.

When guests walked in the door they were greeted by my hostess and given a diaper pin. This was the first of many games! The name of the game was Don't Say Baby!
Don’t Say Baby
Give each guest a baby diaper pin to pin on her clothes. Instruct your guests that during the party everyone is to try not to say the word baby. Whenever someone does, the first person who catches the slip gets to confiscate the pin. The one with the most pins at the end of the party wins. This game makes for continued fun throughout the shower. (Once you lose your pin you are out of the game)
This game lasted all of 5 minutes because everyone kept saying baby. I had one girl that ended up with everyone's pins.

I made my own Bingo cards with The Nightmare theme
Baby BINGO
.
I found the purple velvet pencils at the craft store in the $1 bins
We also did Pass the Present
Pass
The Present
1.
The news is out; quick send a cable, the gift goes to the lady across the
table.2. If someone wears a dress of blue, she must take this gift from you. If blue cannot be seen, it goes to the one wearing green.
3. I will now read another verse… Please pass it to the gal with the largest purse.
4. We are getting tricky, here is a real humdinger! Pass it to the one with the most rings on her fingers.
5. Wow! What a success! Pass it to the guest with the most buttons on her dress.
6. Alas, this gift is not for you. It now goes to the one with the largest shoe.
7. Let’s get this party started girls… Pass it to the one with the cutest curls.
8. Mommy is anxious. Daddy is nervous. Now pass this to the lady who drove the furthest.
9. There won’t be time to practice; there won’t be time to rehearse. Pass this gift to the gal with the most money in her purse!
10. We hope you all are having fun. We have tried to include most everyone. From the largest purse to the largest shoe, pass this gift to the right of you.
11. We’re ending this rhyme, this is the last poem, and the gift you are holding is yours to take home.
We opened a package of diapers for people to write advise on.
*Words for the wee hours*
Give and
Words of encouragement
And a giggle or two
Write on the booty to
take
Their minds off the
duty
Pop the Balloon
We blew up 12 balloons and put papers in all of them. 11 said loser and 1 said Winner. 3 people were picked to play this game. Each of them got 4 balloons to pick. (They could only pick them one at a time) Then, they had to pop the balloon without using their hands. This was a funny game to watch!!!!
*The Decorations*
The best part about doing The Nightmare Before Christmas theme is you can pull out all of your Halloween decorations!
We used purple, black and white balloons everywhere.
I found all of the prizes and this large Jack Skellington at Walgreens.
I made a banner using Black and Purple construction paper and yarn to pull it together. I used The Nightmare Before Christmas font posted above. It took a lot of time to make because I had to figure out how many letters should go on one page and finding the best size.... Ugh it was a pain in the butt also!!! But turned out really cool!!

I also made the pumpkin door and The Oogie Boogie man out of a green insulation foam sheet.
You can pick it up at any hardware store. It comes in different colors depending on what hardware store you go to. Pink is the most common one I've seen.
Here is how I made them.
This is what you will need
First Draw your Pumpkin
Then cut it out using your retractable knife. I found mine in the paint department at The Home Depot for .99 cents.
Be VERY careful cutting this out!!!
Then use sandpaper to smooth out the edges
These are the measurements for the eyes
And the nose
I didn't measure the mouth. I free handed it on a piece of paper.
For the lines that go through the pumpkin, I used my gummy ruler. This is just to leave an imprint in the foam board. Do NOT use a knife or anything that will cut it!
Then I painted the whole thing white except for the eyes, nose and mouth. Those were painted black and I left the nose alone. (painting it white will make your paint more vibrant)
From here I painted the stripes a brownish gold. The reason we dented the lines in were so you could see them after it was painted white.
Then I painted it orange.
These are the colors I used.
And here is the finished product!
Christmas tree for the bathroom (Christmas Town)
My Oogie Boogie Man ( I free handed him) as you can tell my all of the mistakes.
Here is the finished product
For his color i just used a neon green. You can also use a burlap color.
Sadly we didn't take photos of the bathroom. I turned the bathroom into the Christmas Land. I cut out a Christmas tree out of the green insulation foam bored and stuck it on the outside of the bathroom door.
It was super cute!
Some Photos
The prizes
We has these light up tumblers along with candy and other little small stuff in the bags.
Pass the Present prize
You can find these wine glasses in my Etsy shop. I hand painted them.

These glasses are pricey but I can also make them in a smaller size cheaper. Just message me.
These were the prize for the winner of the Diaper Raffle.
I left these sitting on the table so guests knew what they were doing the raffle for.

Now I am a crafty person... these turned out horrible lol I feel like these should be one of those "Nailed it Memes"
This was the only one that looked okay and it was the first one we made.
Oogie Boogie Cupcakes
My sister in law made this diaper cake for me!
The characters are bath toys.
And lets be honest. No one really wants to attend a baby shower... So we decided on having alcohol. We had beer, wine and we made Spiced or or regular apple cider.
Spiced apple cider:
Use a crock pot to heat up the apple cider.
Add red hot candies.
And you can choose to add the alcohol inside or keep it on the side like we did.
You can use vodka or rum.
And for the background we played The Nightmare Before Christmas movie.
Thank you for stopping By!
